What is a cutting die?
Scrapbooking requires certain indispensable accessories, such as cutting dies. Cutting dies are metallized shapes which, when placed in a cutting machine, can be used to create specific cutting patterns in paper or fabric such as fine felt.
It is possible to find cutting dies that, in addition to creating shapes in paper, can emboss it, i.e., give it relief and thus energize your creation. Please note, however, that not all cutting machines are suitable for embossing, so check beforehand that your die is compatible with your machine.
To facilitate your search and give you ideas, our cutting dies are classified in several categories: For gifts, Daily, Dies chiffres, Seasons, En anglais/Dies lettres, Basiques, Animaux et personnages, Natures et Voyages. You'll love our frame cutting dies for ornamental framing or labels that add a personal touch to your gifts.
How do I use a cutting die?
Cutting dies are very easy to use, and once you start using them, you won't be able to do without them! In fact, there are so many cutting dies to choose from, you can imagine anything you like.
To use the cutting dies we offer, you'll need a specific cutting machine like the Big Shot or the 4enSCRAP mini machine, which come with three plates for making a sandwich. Carefully follow the instructions for the cutting process. Start by using a wear plate (the thin one) covered with the paper you want to cut. Then place the cutting die with the cutting side down, followed by the thicker base plate. Once you've made your sandwich, place it in the machine and press down until the crank moves. Then turn it so as to exert pressure, enabling the shape of your cutting die to cut through your substrate. Here's a simple way to create shapes that will give your creations variety and depth.
